Residential Burglaries in South Ham

Good Morning,

There have been recent reports of residential burglaries in South Ham.

With the festive season now upon us and the nights drawing in sooner, I would like to share with you some useful crime prevention advice.

A burglar will select a target because it offers the easiest opportunity to carry out the crime unnoticed. A building that presents itself as unoccupied or insecure is far more likely to be targeted than one which is properly secured.

Forced entry burglaries are usually organised with an element of planning and targeting, with the offenders having an idea of the property they wish to steal.

Top 3 Crime Prevention Tips for Burglary

1. Add as many layers of security to make accessing your home more difficult. This could include installing CCTV or video doorbells – which can then be used for evidential purposes in the event of a crime.

2. A house that appears occupied is less likely to be targeted by burglars, installing light switch timers inside the house can help make it appear occupied. Likewise, dusk to dawn or sensor lighting to the front and rear of your home can help deter potential thieves.

3. Keep high value, easily portable jewellery and equipment from being visible through a window and don’t forget to register them at www.immobilise.com
