Securing your garden

Good afternoon,

You are receiving this alert because you have indicated that burglary, shed/garage burglary, or lack of crime prevention is a priority for you.

At approximately 0251 hours this morning ( 15.06.24), a resident in Silver Birch Way found an unknown person in their garden.  As a result, please see below for some methods to help prevent access to your garden:

  • Look at the access to your garden- do you keep your bins outside, could they be used as a ladder to gain entry into the garden.  If so, is there anywhere else you can store them.
  • Do you leave tools out and about that could be used to cut off locks etc?  Please try to make sure all tools are locked up securely.
  • Do you have security lighting, there are various types available, movement sensors are most popular- it is worth noting however that these do not provide comfort to everyone, they can be set off my animals etc and can cause you to think someone has been there when they have not.
  • Do you have full height fencing- please check planning for firm guidance, however generally speaking 6" fences don't normally require planning permission.
  • Can you incorporate trellis into your borders?  Trellis is not structurally sound and acts as deterrent to those attempting to enter gardens.
  • Defensive planting- there are a number of plants that will also deter visitors to you garden.
  • If you would like any further advice, please do not hesitate to contact me.  If you could let me know how useful the email has been using the voting buttons below I would be grateful as it allows me to plan future alerts.

Also, please forward to friends and family not on Hampshire Alerts and encourage them to sign up, many thanks.

    Kind Regards

    Annette
