NEW SCAM ALERT- SELLING ITEMS THROUGH FACEBOOK

NEW SCAM ALERT.

We have seen an increase in reports of a new scam involving items being sold through Facebook Market Place but the sellers not receiving payment.

Scammers will agree to purchase items such as mobile phones, laptops and PlayStations and arrive at the sellers address to collect the item.

The scammer will show you fake ID such as a driving licence when they arrive. They will then proceed to use a fake banking app where they will either ask for your bank details to input themselves or ask you to put in your own bank details. The fake banking app will then show the money coming out of the scammers ‘bank’. You will check your bank and notice that no money has transferred. At this point, the scammer will show you evidence that it will take between 2 and 24 hours for the money to appear in your account.

You then believe that you will get your money in due course and the scammer goes on their merry way with the goods in hand, knowing that no money will ever reach your bank account.

PLEASE DO NOT HAND OVER ANY ITEMS THAT YOU ARE SELLING UNLESS YOU HAVE THE CLEARED FUNDS IN YOUR ACCOUNT.
