Summer prevention campaign aimed at ASB

A prevention campaign has launched for the summer period to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep young people in Hampshire and Isle of Wight away from harmful influences.

Over the summer holidays, direct engagement with parents and carers will be used to encourage conversations with older children about anti-social behaviour and to participate in organised activities where they live.

A new Hampshire and Isle of Wight website called Every Action Counts will give guidance on how to talk to their children about anti-social behaviour and being responsible for their actions.

Who is the campaign aimed at?

The campaign is aimed at parents of children ten and over, who at this age begin to want to enjoy some freedom during their six weeks off and become more independent. It explains how boredom and lack of engagement can lead to negative outcomes for the community and even for themselves. To help with prevent that a list of free or affordable activities within each districts has been made available on the website to help prevent this behaviour.

Key Messages

•          Committing anti-social behaviour not only negatively impacts the local community, but it can have lifelong consequences for the culprits. Summer months should be great for fun and relaxing, let’s make it a summer to remember for the right reasons. Talk to your child about anti-social behaviour with the help of Every Action Counts.

•          Anti-social behaviour can intimidate the community, and severely impact quality of life. ASB can lead to more severe actions and more severe consequences down the line. Start conversations with your child about what behaviour is and isn’t appropriate early and evade it altogether. It’ll free up valuable police time and give communities a better chance of being free from anti-social behaviour.

•          Follow your local police social media account to discover activities that will keep kids active and occupied this summer. Our neighbourhood teams often share tips about free and affordable groups, activities, and events happening for teenagers and young people.

•          Making your child aware of their own actions can help them to have fun without having a negative impact on anybody. Children involved in graffiti, drinking in public places, is just the start and often leads to more serious crimes. Show your child on how to make the most of the area they live in, whilst respecting themselves, your family, and their community.
