Pickpocketing

Good afternoon,

You are receiving this email because you have highlighted that personal safety / lack of crime prevention is a priority for you.

Unfortunately we have had a case of 'pick pocketing' within the Farnborough Town Centre, please don't be alarmed by this, but I felt this would make for a timely email to provide some ideas to focus on how to keep safe when shopping.

Please forward this on to anyone who you would feel would benefit from this information ( and encourage them to sign up!), and also, let me know how useful this email has been using the voting buttons below.  I review all feedback to ensure that the alerts being sent are useful to you.

A few suggestions, but not an exhaustive list:

1- Try not to get distracted by others- or, ensure your bag is shut / zipped / secure, prior to engaging with an unexpected enquiry.
2- Make use of purse cord / purse bells so that there is an audible noise / disturbance should anyone try to remove your items.
3- Where possible, 'clamp' your bag between your arm and your body, this will make it harder for someone to dip into it.
4- Try to use bags that have fasteners, open bags are much easier to dip into.
5- Don't leave your bag on your Trolley whilst you 'just pop' to an item on a shelf- cctv shows how easy it is to get into someone's bag when they are stood next to it but not looking at it.
6-Can you use a bag that goes across your body so that your belongings are in front of you?
7-Quickly return money / cards to your wallet, return to your bag and close them quickly.
8- A purse / wallet that is difficult to open works well.
9- Keep a list of numbers separately to your phone- I certainly wouldn't remember all my emergency contact numbers myself.
10- Have a list of all the cards within your wallet, relevant numbers, and who to call incase you ever need to freeze them.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any particular concerns, and I will be more than happy to help.

Kind Regards

Annette
