Today we launched Op Antidote to target Drug Use and Supply in the Bay and it is off to a flying start with a Warrant in Shanklin this morning – pictured with the famous ‘Big Red Key’ are PC Carey the Beat Bobby for Shanklin with PC Evans and PC Blanchard the Beat Bobby’s for Newport; who kindly supported us today. This Operation is in response our Communities highlighting Drug use and Supply as a top priority using the #LetsTalk initiative (details below).

As a result of the Warrant a 47yr old man from Shanklin was arrested on Suspicion of Possession with Intent to Supply Controlled Drugs and has since been released under investigation. Controlled Drugs, a Samurai Sword and electronic device were seized - the investigation is ongoing

South Wight Neighbourhoods Team (NPT) are targeting the Priorities you have set for Shanklin, Ventnor, Sandown and Lake.

1. Reduce Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)
2. Disrupt the use and supply of Controlled Drugs
3. Tackle Anti-Social Vehicles and Speeding

What have we done to date?

1. Op Spider was launched in 2021 to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour and has led to a 49% Reduction in ASB. We are still continuing with the Operation to sustain this reduction and divert young people
2. Op Antidote has been launched today (05/08/24) to target and disrupt the use and supply of controlled drugs
3. Op Sidlaw was launched as a joint Operation with Newport NPT in July 2024 and has led to prosecutions for Speeding, No Insurance, Defective Vehicles and Dangerous Driving. We have also issued Section 59 Warnings and Seized vehicles under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act. Officers are engaging with the Car Clubs and driving communities to educate drivers and prevent incidents.

We continue to patrol on foot and cycle every day to ensure the Bay remains a safe place to live, work and visit. We will continue to support the most vulnerable, divert those who need guidance and relentlessly pursue those to look to cause harm in our Communities.
