Witness Appeal - Attempt Arson in Baughurst, Tadley

Good afternoon,

We are appealing for witnesses and information following an incident overnight at the Wellington Arms pub in Baughurst, Tadley.

Officers were called at 07:26 today (31 August) to a report that an attempt had been made to set the pub alight. This occurred between 02:00-04:00 but was only discovered later when the first employee turned up for work. Hampshire and IOW Fire Service attended the scene and extinguished a small smouldering fire that was located. It was found that an accelerant had been poured over the front door and surrounding walls. No injuries have been reported and only minor damage caused.

At this time, the incident is being treated as suspected arson with intent to endanger life and officers are currently working hard to establish the exact circumstances.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and any information which may help with the investigation. Were you in the area at the time? Did you witness the incident or were you driving past the pub on Baughurst Road from the Shaw Lane direction? Do you have any CCTV or dash camera footage which may help our investigation?

Anyone with information please contact 101 and quote 44240373564. Alternatively, you can also make a report via our website here: How to tell us about an existing case or report | Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary
