Burglary Alert- Farnborough

Good afternoon Resident,

Unfortunately, I am writing this alert due to a Burglary that occurred in the Farnborough area on the 6th September.  Between 2000-2100, a house was entered, and jewellery was taken from within, if you live in the Moorfield Place area of Farnborough and think you have seen anything suspicious, please let us know by contacting us online and quoting crime reference number 44240383812.

I know from my own experience, that Burglaries can really make us feel on edge, and I really like to try to help people feel safe in their homes.  Farnborough remains a safe place to live, but there are lots of options we can consider to increase our home security:

1- Using lights and radios on timer switches to give the illusion that you're home, even when you're not.  However consider the room you place a light in; we don't tend to spend our entire evenings in the hallway for example.

2-Use of doorbell cameras

3- security lighting- however it is worth considering with this, whether it would add reassurance to you, or cause an illusion someone is there when they're not- for example if wildlife sets it off.

4- security coding / marking your valuables and registering them on a website such as The National Property Register, for Phones, Gadgets, Bicycles & More... (immobilise.com)

5- Hedges / front fences- are they so tall that they are making your front windows secluded- this can create opportunities for people to try to gain entry via the front windows etc.

6- Is your side gate locked and secure, or can it be opened and provide easy access to your back garden?

7- Do you lock your front door properly, or can you fit a letterbox deflector to prevent items being put through the letterbox to open the door handle?

8- Simply closing and locking all windows and doors- if you just pop out, don't make it so that someone else can just pop in.

This isn't a comprehensive list, and if you would ever like anything more bespoke please let me know.

If you could let me know how useful this alert has been by using the buttons below I would be grateful, as it helps me assess what is wanted, and what isn't.

Many thanks

Annette
