A 26-year-old man from Ringwood has been jailed for 16 weeks for a series of shopliftings in the town.

Quincy Rufus Digby Hopkins, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday (21 October).

Hopkins had already pleaded guilty to the nine thefts at previous hearings at the same court on Wednesday 18 September and Monday 30 September.

The incidents took place at Budgens, Poplar Crescent, Morrisons Daily, Hightown Road and Tesco Express, The Furlong between Sunday 15 August and Sunday 22 September.

During the thefts, Hopkins stole hundreds of pounds worth of meat products, leaving the stores on each occasion without making any attempt to pay for the items.

Sergeant Chris Pell, of Ringwood & Fordingbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I’m pleased to see Hopkins has been placed behind bars.

“His shoplifting has affected many businesses in our area. As a team, we will always do everything we can to make sure those who commit crime in the Ringwood area are held accountable for their actions.

“This sentencing should send a clear message to others who are thinking about stealing from the businesses in our area.

“It will not be tolerated and we will work hard to bring you before the courts, where you will face the consequences.”
