This is our final post about last week’s Area Commander’s Awards, and today it is all about PC James Carey who picked up TWO Area Commander Certificates of Congratulations at the ceremony.

The first related to his efforts in identifying and arresting an offender in Ryde who had committed multiple burglaries, criminal damage, and was also a knife-carrier. PC Carey’s colleagues who were also involved in this incident and investigation picked up their certificates at a previous Awards Ceremony in April, with James collecting his at the ceremony last Thursday.

His second certificate related to his efforts to investigate and secure charges and convictions for a complex criminal damage case, which saw a Grade 2 listed building on the Island suffer up to £300,000 worth of damage.

After picking up the investigation, PC Carey identified a large number of juvenile suspects and single-handedly worked to interview them all, test and compare their individual accounts, gather evidence including mobile phone analysis, and due to the scale of the damage pushed for this to be prosecuted through the courts.

PC Carey worked diligently, conducting an extensive and thorough investigation which involved liaising with the Youth Offending Team, CPS, and the victims – much of this work saw James completing long days and finishing late whilst still keeping on top of his other workloads.

His dexterity, dedication and professional attitude showed his relentless pursuit for criminals and truly showed how victim focused he is. This investigation culminated with seven juveniles being convicted in court, with the case attracting both local and national press attention.
