Good Morning,
Over the past few weeks we have seen an increase in keyless thefts of vehicles. It appears they are being stolen by a group of three/four individuals who are coming into Hart and surrounding areas from out of county. We are investigating these but are circulating this in order to offer crime prevention advice.
If you have a keyless vehicle, then please have a read through the below advice. It takes a matter of minutes for individuals to pick up the signal using a device and steal the vehicle. The below measures will make this more difficult and act as a deterrent.
Keep keys out of sight and away from doors and windows. Use a signal blocking pouch, known as a Faraday Bag, to store your keys (and any spare sets) which blocks your car key fob from transmitting its code to the vehicle. Turn off your Keyless Fob’s Wireless Signal. Wireless signals on some keyless fobs can be switched off. Look in your cars manual to see if you can do this. Use a tested and approved Steering Wheel /Pedal / Gear Lock as a deterrent. They are inexpensive, easy to install and off-putting to criminals. Sold Secure approved products are tested against tools used by criminals such as Crowbars and Angle Grinders. Tracking devices can help track down your vehicle and the perpetrator should it be taken. Invest in the right technology. Most modern cars are fitted with alarms and immobilisers as standard, check with your manufacturer to make sure your car is as secure as it can be. Re-programme your keys if you buy a second hand car. Park securely. Use your garage if you have one, a Master Locksmith Association approved company will be able to provide advice on keeping your garage secure. CCTV and Lighting. If you park on your driveway consider fitting outdoor motion detector lighting and CCTV from Inspectorate Approved Installers who are members of a recognised inspecting body (e.g. National Security Inspectorate, Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board and accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service.
