Be Black Friday Savvy

The countdown is now on for Black Friday!

But beware criminals will target online shoppers with fake websites to try and trick people into buying goods or services that never materialise. Take Five are advising people to:

STOP: Taking a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information could keep you safe.

☝️ CHALLENGE: Could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.

👊 PROTECT: Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been scammed and report it to Action Fraud online or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Only give out your personal or financial information to sellers you know to be legitimate.

Our colleagues at The Met have put together a short, signed, subtitled film which tells you everything you need to know about spending your money online: Little Guide to SAFER ONLINE SHOPPING (subtitles & sign).mp4 on Vimeo

#BeFearless

Fearless, part of the independent charity CrimeStoppers, provides young people with a safe, non-judgemental space to get information about crime, and the opportunity to pass on any information they might have 100% anonymously. The voices of young people are important and we want to encourage them to #BeFearless in speaking up about crime, to help keep themselves, their friends and communities safe.

The Bobby Scheme

The Bobby Scheme is a free service where trained police-vetted fitters will visit a home to carry out a full crime prevention and fire safety survey and fit items such as locks and smoke alarms. It is free to those who are vulnerable due to age, circumstance, disabled or a victim of household crime. Anyone can make a referral, including individuals, friends, family and doctors.

    Police and Crime Plan 2024-28

The Police Commissioner’s local priorities for the next four years are based on extensive feedback from the public consultation, where over 10,300 residents gave their views to help shape policing in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The new plan ‘More Police, Safer Streets 2’ can be read or downloaded from https://www.hampshire-pcc.gov.uk/commissioner/police-crime-plan

    Keep your tools secure

We have seen a recent rise in reports of thefts of tools from vans across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Please share the following advice with professional groups and contacts you may have, especially if they are self-employed tradespeople:

  • Keep your vehicle locked at all times.
  • Wherever possible remove tools from the vehicle and store securely overnight. Use a lockable cabinet in the van during the day.
  • Mark tools clearly with your name/company name using a suitable property marking system.
  • Register tools on a property registration database such as Immobilise for free.
