High Visibility Patrols - Hedge End North

Good evening Resident

I’m writing just to give an update on what I’ve been up to.

Yesterday was a very busy shift for the whole team. I was out on high visibility cycle patrol (9.6 miles) with a number of visits to complete. These included –

- Safeguarding 2 scam victims.

- Visiting the alleged suspect of a harassment report.

- Visit someone who had made domestic abuse disclosure request, but we hadn’t heard back from. Do you know about Clare’s Law? Request information under Clare's Law: Make a Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) application | Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary

And other tasks I can’t publish on this page.

Whilst making my way to each of these tasks I came across a road rage type incident on Charles Watts Way. One man had stopped his car on the dual carriageway and was out of his car and talking to the man in the car behind him. It was getting quite heated, so I shouted to the man to get back in his car and go on his way, which he did.

A lot of people are quite stressed this time of year and people are human and make mistakes – please don’t stop your car and get out unless there has been a collision and details need to be exchanged. If your behaviour alarms and or distresses someone this could be a criminal matter – so please keep calm and carry on driving.

I also came across a car stopped on a blind bend and on yellow lines, after asking the driver if he was ok and to carry on his way, it became apparent the driving standards were far below acceptable. At the next junction when the car was stopped, I asked the driver to pull over and get out so we could have a chat. Long story short, the driver was the son of the passenger, who had let his son drive the car to test out his diving ability before he insured him on the car – Roads Policing officers joined me and the driver was dealt with for driving with no insurance and the passenger was dealt with for permitting his son to drive with no insurance.

Today I have done almost 20 miles of high visibility patrols, over Hedge End, West End and Botley. I’ve been told there have been some comments on various Facebook groups about the lack of Police visibility, but I hope my posts and patrols go some way to showing residents we are out and about. Just because you didn’t see me, doesn’t mean I wasn’t on patrol – this is the reason I use the maps of where I have been.
