Witness appeal following car fire in Hook

We are appealing for information and witnesses following a car fire in Hook yesterday.

Officers were called on Sunday 29 December to a report that a Seat car was on fire on Memorial Road. It is believed the fire started at around 4.20am.

A second vehicle, a Mercedes, was also damaged. No injuries have been reported.

Since this was reported to us, officers have been carrying out a number of enquiries and extra patrols in the area. Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have information.

Were you in the area at the time mentioned above? Did you witness any suspicious behaviour? Do you have any doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage which could help our investigation?

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting the crime reference number 44240563300.

It comes after officers received reports of six vehicles fires between Friday 1 November and Monday 2 December:

- A Peugeot had been set on fire on Holt Way between 2am and 3am on Monday 2 December (44240523977)

- Two Fiat 500s had been set on fire on Redes Close between 2am and 3am on Monday 2 December (44240524030 / 44240524036)

Police Sergeant Geoff Hill said: “We fully appreciate that these incidents have caused concern in the local community.

“However, I would like to reassure you that we are taking all of these reports extremely seriously.

“Our teams are carrying out a number of enquiries and we will be increasing our patrols to provide reassurance and to progress the investigation.

“We have also been reviewing CCTV, however the pictures aren’t the best quality, so we would like to appeal to anyone who may have images or information which could help.

“If you saw anything suspicious, or if you have footage which could help our enquiries, please get in touch.”
