THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLES

Dear Residents

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

We want to make you aware that we have had several reports of thefts from motor vehicles over the past few days.

The neighbourhood policing team have been looking into these and making enquires.

We cannot stress enough how important it is to double check that your vehicle doors are locked. Please DO NOT rely on the locking sound. Physically double check they are locked.

DO NOT leave any valuables in your vehicles.

The reports coming through are NOT forced entry they are opportunists checking handles until they find one that is unlocked. DO NOT let these criminals have an easy target.

Thefts can take place during the day or night, whether a vehicle is parked in a driveway, on the street or in a public car park.

Please consider the below advice.

Protect your vehicle and property:
• When leaving your vehicle, close all windows and lock your car. Test the door to ensure it
is definitely locked.
• Park your vehicle in an attended car park and look for public car parks approved by the
Park Mark scheme.
• Consider having a dash-cam fitted, that records when the car is switched off, if the car
gets bumped, the dash-cam will record everything and also act as a visual deterrent.
• Items of little value, such as shopping bags and clothing, may tempt a potential thief to break
into the vehicle to see whether they contain anything worth stealing. Don't leave anything on
display and take all personal possessions with you.
• Do not hide any valuable items. Take it with you or leave it at home.
• Leave the glove box open to show there's nothing inside.
• At home, park in your garage, driveway or a well-lit area.
• Do not store ownership documents inside the vehicle.

We understand that you are sharing concerns on Facebook and other social media platforms but PLEASE ensure that you also report through the correct channels to Police.  The more information and evidence we obtain, the greater our chances are of identifying these criminals.
