CCTV image released as part of Aldershot arson investigation

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man as part of an investigation into a suspected arson in Aldershot.

Officers attended a commercial unit off Eastern Road, following a call from colleagues in Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service at 12.37am on Wednesday 1 January. We assisted with road closures while the fire was put out.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused extensive damage to one unit and to four cars that were parked inside.

An examination of the scene has taken place, and following further enquiries, this incident is now being treated as arson.

We have now released a CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to about this incident.

Detective Constable Andy Robinson said: “This was a fire that caused a substantial amount of damage, as well as disruption to the local community.

“As part of our enquiries, we would like to identify the man in the CCTV image. He was seen at the commercial unit at the time of this incident.

“We know the image is not of the greatest quality, but if you recognise him, or have any other information about what happened, then please contact us.

“Additionally, we would like to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at this time and who has dashcam footage that could help our enquiries. We’d also like to hear from any resident or business nearby that has door bell footage or CCTV that could help us.”

Anyone with information should call us on 101 and quote the crime reference number 44250000181, or visit our website - https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/

Alternatively, you can report information anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
