A shoplifter has been jailed for eight months after he breached a Criminal Behaviour Order and stole items worth more than £220 from stores in Aldershot. Leonard Jones, 39, of no fixed abode, stole household, meat and confectionary products from One Stop on North Lane and Co-op on Lower Farnham Road between 18 December and 3 January. The stolen items were worth a total of £227.30. Officers launched an investigation and Jones was arrested and later charged with five counts of theft from a shop. He was also charged with five counts of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order after he was caught in various parts of Aldershot. Jones pleaded guilty to all offences and was jailed for a total of eight months at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Friday 10 January. Police Sergeant Rob Tiller, from the Aldershot Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Jones is a prolific shoplifter whose actions have had a huge impact on local businesses, shop workers and members of the community. "Our message is clear – shoplifting and this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Aldershot. "The actions of shoplifters make a huge difference to shop owners as they will have to recover the costs which have been lost. This results in shops typically increasing prices, which has a huge impact on the wider public. "This sentencing should send a clear message to others who are thinking about stealing from the businesses in our area." | ||||
