Man, 36, charged with racially aggravated criminal damage in Basingstoke


Officers investigating reports of racially aggravated criminal damage in Basingstoke have charged a man.

We were called to reports that a number of shop windows had been smashed on Winchester Street, London Street and Market Place between 11.15pm and 11.30pm on Sunday 12 January.

Officers launched an investigation and arrested a man on Saturday 18 January.

Daniel Harris, 36, of no fixed abode, has since been charged with three counts of racially / religiously aggravated criminal damage and three counts of criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.

He was also charged with racially / religiously aggravated intentional harassment / alarm / distress.

Harris is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court today (20 January).
