A man has been arrested after officers received reports of an attempted theft of a car in Basingstoke this morning.

We were called at 2.30am today (23 January) to a report that a man had gained access to a BMW in the Buckskin area.

Officers attended the scene and a 37-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

He remains in custody while our enquiries continue.
