Southampton address linked to drug use, violence and anti-social behaviour sealed shut following closure order application

A Southampton flat linked to repeated reports of drug use, violence and anti-social behaviour is now subject to a full closure order.

The occupant of the address, which is on Lydgate Close, persistently subjected neighbours to drug use, both inside and outside of the property, as well as constant criminality including violent behaviour. Occupants and visitors would make noise at all hours of the day and night, both inside the flat and outside.

Yesterday (Wednesday 22 January), Magistrates in Southampton granted a three-month full closure order for the address, following an application by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary. This means that, other than those who have a lawful reason to enter the property – such as Southampton City Council, police and other emergency services – anyone else found to enter the property or to be in breach of the order would be liable for arrest and prosecution.

Officers attended the flat alongside Southampton City Council yesterday afternoon to implement the order and secure the address. This means that the property is now sealed shut, prohibiting anyone from entering. We can consider applying for further extensions to this closure order if necessary.

Designated neighbourhood officer for Thornhill, Police Constable Josh Metcalfe, said: “This is one further step forward to restoring peace and normality to the lives of local residents, and ensuring the people causing misery cannot return to the address.

“We hope this reassures the public that we simply won’t tolerate this type of behaviour and offending, and will work in partnership to explore every avenue to put a stop to it.

“Please keep reporting information to us about anti-social behaviour and drugs supply by either calling 101, or visiting the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.

"Every piece of information we receive from you helps us develop the bigger picture and take action.”
