A teenager has been jailed for more than three years after a man was stabbed in Basingstoke.

Officers were called to a report that a man had been attacked by a group of men on Churchill Way at around 6.40pm on Saturday 13 January last year.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Officers launched an investigation and arrested three men in connection with the incident. Two men were charged.

Segest Meti, 19, of York Road, Aldershot, was charged with conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

He pleaded guilty and was jailed for a total of three years and two months at Winchester Crown Court yesterday (23 January).

The court heard Meti was stood over the victim holding a large combat knife, however it was not proven that he used it to inflict the wound.

Marko Karrabecaj, 28, of Mayesbrook Road, Ilford, pleaded guilty to assisting an offender and was jailed for nine months.

A 32-year-old man from Basingstoke, who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, was released and will face no further action.

Police Staff Investigator Michael Longmore, from the Northern Area Crime Team, said: “This was a shocking incident which left the victim needing to be treated for serious, but thankfully, non life-threatening injuries.

“Our officers launched an investigation and worked tirelessly to ensure we had enough evidence to put this case before the courts.

“We will continue to do all we can ensure to ensure that those who carry knives will face the full consequences for their actions.

“Our commitment to tackling knife crime continues and I hope this case sends a strong message to anyone who chooses to carry a weapon or become involved in serious violence, no good ever comes from it. The consequences destroy lives forever.”
