Dear Residents

Op Pivot, the national firearms amnesty campaign, is running from Monday 3 February 2025 to Friday 28 February 2025. During this period, members of the public will be able to surrender weapons into police stations and hand them over the front counter.

The campaign has a specific focus on Turkish manufactured Top-Venting Blank Firing (TVBF) Pistols – which are now illegal to possess. Approximately 22,000 blank firing calibre weapons have been legally imported into the UK since 2019, mostly originating from Turkey.

There are widespread examples of these weapons being converted to fire projectiles, including confirmed use in multiple homicides. Op Hurricane in the south-east region found one Organised Crime Group (OCG) purchased over 400 TVBF weapons over a period of just three months.

Firearms are clearly dangerous, and their removal will prevent criminal access and reduce the overall harm of gun crime within our communities.
