Do you recognise this man?

We would like to speak to him in connection with a report of attempted burglary at an address on Carthagena, Sutton Scotney.

During the incident, which occurred between 2.20pm and 2.25pm on Tuesday 28 January, an unknown man, who claimed he worked for social services, tried to force his way into victim’s home.

The victim, who had kept the security chain in place, was able to shut the door and prevent the man from gaining entry to the property.

The man we’d like to speak to in connection with this incident is described as:

• Aged between 40 and 50 years
• Approximately 5ft 10ins tall
• Mixed race
• Slim build
• Short hair
• Wearing a black woollen beanie hat, black hooded top, black cargo-style trousers, black trainers, black shoulder bag worn around the shoulder and sunglasses
• The man was travelling in a blue Vauxhall Astra with a registration number of KA05 UJX

We believe the man in these images can help us with our investigation and would urge him, or anyone who knows his identity, to get in touch with us.

Also, if you witnessed the incident, saw anything suspicious in the area at the time, including the vehicle or man described above, or have any CCTV, mobile phone, dash cam or doorbell camera footage which could aid our investigation, please contact us.

You can do this by calling 101, or by reporting online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website, quoting incident number 44250034960.

Below is some useful advice regarding any visitors to your property.

• Do not let unexpected callers into your home. If in doubt, keep them out
• It is best not to open the door to anyone you don't know. If you do decide to speak to unexpected visitors consider doing so through the closed door or speak to them through a front window or through your video doorbell if you have one.
• Always ask for identification. If the caller is legitimate, they won’t mind you calling the company to verify their visit. Always use the contact number on your own bills or from their official website – not a number given to you by the caller.
• Some public utility services (e.g. water, electricity, gas) operate a password system. Contact your local branch to find out more.
