Man jailed after pleading guilty to public order offences

A Winchester man has been jailed for seven months after admitting verbally abusing officers.

Gary Page, of St Cross Road, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Wednesday 12 February.

The 51-year-old had admitted two public order offences, one of which was racially aggravated.

The court heard that charges related to Page’s behaviour towards officers after they attended an incident in the city centre on Monday 28 October, 2024.

After being arrested, Page verbally abused officers who transported him to the Northern Police Investigation Centre in Basingstoke, and those in the custody centre.

He also admitted failing to surrender to police/court bail at the appointed time, by not attending a related court hearing in December last year.

Page was also convicted of a breach of his Criminal Behaviour Order.

The court heard Page was subject to an order banning him from certain parts and retail premises in the city centre, and he breached this by entering High Street in Winchester on Sunday 3 November, 2024.

He was jailed for a total sentence of seven months and one week.
