A man who rode an e-scooter to supply drugs in Basingstoke has been jailed for seven years after officers found Class A drugs worth £1210.
David Holden, 46, of Hailstone Road, Basingstoke, appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday 20 February after he was charged with a number of drug offences.
The court heard that Holden was riding an e-scooter on Baynard Close on 20 August last year when officers spotted drug-related activity near Shooters Way.
Following a search, officers located 16 wraps of Class A drugs in his pocket. The drugs, along with a rucksack which contained knives, electronic scales and a mobile phone, were all seized. Holden was arrested and bailed.
On 26 November, officers were on a proactive patrol when they noticed Holden riding an e-scooter on Maple Crescent. Again, they suspected drug-related activity was taking place and carried out a search.
Officers located 106 wraps of crack cocaine, £460 in cash and three mobile phones. All items, including the e-scooter, were seized.
Holden was arrested and later charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply a controlled a drug of Class A and two counts of possessing a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place.
He was also charged with possessing a controlled drug of Class A and acquiring / using / possessing criminal property
Holden pleaded guilty to all offences and was jailed for a total of seven years at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday 20 February.
Police Staff Investigator Michael Longmore, from the Northern Area Crime Team, said: “David Holden supplied Class A drugs in Basingstoke over a three-month period.
“Officers caught him during a proactive stop and he was later charged with a number of drug offences. He will now spend a considerable time behind bars for dealing drugs.
“I hope this sentence highlights that our officers will do everything in their power to ensure Basingstoke is not targeted by drugs networks.
“We know that drug supply causes harm and misery to our communities and is linked to acquisitive crime, as well as some of the most serious violence we see.
“We are determined to keep relentlessly pursuing criminals to reduce the negative impact they have on the local community, making it safe for everyone.”
