Four teenagers have been arrested this morning (Monday 17 March) as part of our investigation into a conspiracy involving the theft of mopeds and motorbikes in Southampton. As part of our ongoing investigation, officers from Southampton West’s neighbourhood policing team led an operation early today in which they attended a number of addresses in the Millbrook, Coxford and Shirley areas believed to be linked to the conspiracy. As a result, a 14-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys from Southampton have been arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft conspiracy offences. All four remain in police custody while our enquiries continue. This action comes following months of investigation into a number of reports received since November 2024 of motorbike and moped thefts in the west of Southampton. We believe these reports are also linked to the use of motorcycle and moped related anti-social behaviour in the area.
Having spent time speaking with the victims of these thefts and local residents, we know that this type of anti-social behaviour and criminality has had a massive impact on people living in the area. We are committed to tackling it and these arrests today are part of our ongoing work to do this. Anyone who has had a bike stolen, or anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting the reference 44250087437.
