A 49-year-old man from West End has been charged with engaging in sexual communications with a child and racially aggravated public order.

Dean Lawson, of no fixed abode, appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court this morning (Wednesday 9 April).

He was further remanded in custody to next appear at Southampton Crown Court on Friday 9 May.

The charges follow reports of a man making inappropriate comments towards a group of teenagers on High Street, West End at 8pm on Monday (7 April).
Local officers, who acted swiftly following the reports, have been carrying out high-visibility reassurance patrols in the area. These will continue over the coming days.
