Man, 41, jailed following dangerous driving incident in Aldershot

A driver has been jailed for three and a half years after he broke a man’s leg when he hit him with his car in Aldershot.

Russell Bishop, 41, of Masterson Close, Aldershot, struck the man, who was working as a bailiff, after he saw him attempting to tow away his black Mercedes outside his home address.

The victim, who is now in his 40s, had attached Bishop’s car onto his recovery truck at around 5pm on 24 November 2023.

Winchester Crown Court heard that Bishop climbed on top of the truck and reversed his vehicle off the back. He then drove over the man and sped away from the scene.

The victim was taken to Frimley Park Hospital to be treated for a broken tibia and fibula. He required surgery and a metal rod was attached to his right ankle and right knee.

Officers were called and located Bishop’s vehicle on West Hope’s Grant Road. Police then attended Bishop’s home address and arrested him.

Bishop was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road accident.

He denied the offences but was found guilty following a trial at Winchester Crown Court.

Bishop was jailed for a total of three and a half years at the same court on Friday 4 April. He was also disqualified from driving for five years.

DC Chloe Walker, from Hart and Rushmoor CID, said: “Russell Bishop’s behaviour that day was reckless, careless and dangerous.

“He clearly had absolutely no regard for the safety of himself or the victim, who had to have surgery as a result of his actions.

“Bishop was arrested later that day and charged with a serious offence. He will now spend a considerable amount of time behind bars for what he did.

“I hope this result reassures the local community that we will carry out thorough investigations and do all we can to put offenders before the courts.”
