West Wight Neighbourhood Newsletter - March/April 2025

Good morning all,

The latest edition of the West Wight Neighbourhood Newsletter is here. We have just welcomed Inspector Jo Nelson to the team, who was up until now the local inspector for Ryde.

Below we have given a brief overview of some of the things that the wider team have been up to throughout March and into this month.

Yarmouth

Police have been carrying out high visibility anti-social behaviour (ASB) patrols around the Totland area. We have had not many reports recently, but we still believe ASB is continuing.

We would urge members of the public to report any ASB via 101 or online through the report tool at www.hampshire.police.uk

Dial 999 in an emergency or if a crime is in progress.

The West Wight team will continue to carry out patrols and deal with any nuisance behaviour. Three youths were stopped recently and searched and they were found in possession of alcohol under age.

Our rural DNO (Local Bobby) PC Liz Clapp and PCSO Justin Keefe were out last week with Trading Standards and the RSPCA as part of an animal welfare operation, following a number of reports to Trading Standards about this matter. The investigation is still ongoing but this is something Trading Standards and the police take very seriously.

This is just one example of how the teams are now embedding into their areas and working alongside partner agencies to tackle the problems in our communities

Cowes

Having pop up mobile beat surgeries is proving successful. PCSO Paul has spoken to a lot of people in the community this way, so this will be continuing with venues being varied each month. Cowes Station will continue to open once a week too.

Cowes Police Team are working with housing associations to help combat the problems that tenants are having in their area. Working together with different powers and legislation is more efficient and gets more positive results.

Newport

The Team have been working with partner agencies to tackle issues that the community in Gunville have raised to us, such as noise disturbance from loud vehicles and parking matters. Community letters have been given out in the relevant area.

If you have any issues in your area, please let us know. We can only help if we know of your problems. Continue to report things to us by calling 101 or using the reporting tool on our website.

If you haven’t done so already, you can also fill in our Let’s Talk survey online to have your say on the issues that matter most to you in your neighbourhood: https://survey.hampshirealert.co.uk/
