Man, 30, jailed for six years after assaulting woman in Aldershot

A man has been jailed for six years after he grabbed a woman by the throat, pinned her to the floor and spat in her face in Aldershot.

Liam Brannan, 30, of Tongham Road, Aldershot, attacked the woman, who is aged in her 20s, on two occasions at an address in the town centre in June and August last year.

In June, he put her in a headlock, pinned her to the floor and spat in her face before snatching her phone from her so she couldn’t call the police.

A member of the public was walking outside the address and heard the confrontation so called the police. The woman, who was known to Brannan, was left with bruising to her neck, face, arms and legs.

In August, Brannan attended her address wearing gloves and a balaclava and assaulted the woman and a man who was inside. He grabbed her by the throat to prevent her from calling for help.

He then fled the address and was arrested by officers. He was later charged and pleaded guilty to three counts of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm and three counts of intentional strangulation at Winchester Crown Court.

Brannan was jailed for a total of six years at the same court on Friday 11 April.
