Dispersal orders in place for Basingstoke this week as officers continue to tackle anti-social behaviour

Dispersal orders are in place in Basingstoke this week as officers continue to tackle youth-related anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

Officers have implemented dispersal orders under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to cover the area pictured in the attached map from 3pm today (Thursday 17 April) until 3pm on Monday 21 April.

They give our officers the power to order a person to leave the area with no return within the specified time period. Those who refuse to comply with the order are committing a criminal offence and are liable for arrest.

Children between the ages of 10 and 16 who are issued with dispersal notices will be taken home to their parents/guardian, and officers will carry out follow-up work.

It comes after officers implemented a dispersal order in the town centre last weekend following recent reports of ASB. A total of four people were either ordered to leave the town centre, or taken to their home address, under the terms of the dispersal order.

To coincide with last weekend’s dispersal order, officers also carried out 10 searches and safeguarded a vulnerable woman during proactive patrols in the town centre on Saturday 12 April.
