Hi Resident If you find this information helpful please “rate” this message at the bottom (very quick and simple). Trading Standards have some more scam warnings to share with you – If you are a member of a committee or group be very cautious if you receive an email from a colleague requesting that you make a payment on their behalf. Their email account has probably been hacked and the scammers will be trying to con you into making a payment to them – always check independently with the sender to confirm the requestWe are receiving more reports of scam QR codes, primarily in car parks, these can take you to websites that will set up subscriptions on your account or download malware. Be very careful when using these, always use your camera to scan and check the website.Scammers like to pretend to be organisations such as Gov.uk or DWP as they can use these names to encourage us to share our information. The latest text purporting to be from DWP was regarding an application for a Heating Payment. Do not click on links in texts or emails. Contact the organisation independently and do your research.A care agency has contacted us to warn about scammers calling residents about setting up care plans, this could be very confusing if they are already in receipt of care from a company and could result in you losing money. Don’t engage with anyone who contacts you out of the blue!A couple of lottery scams have been reported, one for the Peoples Postcode Lottery and the other from the FIFA World Cup Lottery. Remember if you haven’t bought a ticket you cant win anything. Check these organisations out independently, when contacted they confirmed that the letters were scams however the paperwork looks very genuine with logos and addresses!TV Licence renewal email – this will ask you to click on a link to renew. Don’t click on links in emails – check the sender email address and contact TV Licencing if you aren’t sureWith the weather improving we are anticipating an increase in doorstep traders. These might be trying to replace your roof or power wash your drive or they might be trying to sign you up to cheaper utilities. The safest thing to do is say “no thankyou” and close the door. There is no telling (until after the event) if these are genuine so its easier to say no to all of them!Stay Safe |
